MUSIC CONCERT

A reminder that there will be a Music Concert on Wednesday 2nd April in the school hall. The concert will include a wide range of music groups including our brilliant orchestra and choirs. It will be in the school hall at 4.00pm and will be due to finish by  around 5.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

 

MUSIC LESSONS

Please note that the last music lessons for this term that are delivered by Inspire Music will take place on Monday 1st April.  There are no further Inspire lessons that week.  The Inspire music lessons will resume on Monday 29th April and will run through the whole of the summer term.

TRIM TRAIL REPAIRS

You may have noticed that the trim trail is currently out of action.  As a result of our regular inspections, we have been advised that after last year’s long hot summer, some of the wood has dried out causing cracks to appear.  After carrying out some initial repairs we have been awaiting quotes and the good news is that the repairs will be taking place very soon.  Please be assured that we are doing all we can to get the equipment back into operation so the children can once again enjoy its use.

 

SCHOOL MEAL CHARGES

The price of school meals will be increasing by 1p from £2.29 to £2.30 as of Tuesday 23rd April 2019.

MATHLETICS

As you are aware, Mathletics is currently unavailable. We are currently looking into whether Mathletics is the best online maths programme for our children to be using. After listening to feedback from parents, children and staff, we feel that there may be alternative websites which will be better able to support our children's maths learning. We are currently exploring these options and we will update parents in due course. Thank you for your understanding.

FOOD FOR LIFE - GRANDPARENT GARDENING EVENT

We would like to invite grandparents along to our first Grandparent gardening event on Thursday 4th April 2019.  If you a grandparent of one of our children and have some time to spare then please let me know by emailing the school office.  We will aim to set up an area in the small playground and grow some of our very own vegetables.  We are also going to create an Herb Garden by courtesy of Veg Trug.  I look forward to hearing from you if you are able to come along and support us.

ROAD SAFETY

I understand from some concerned parents that there appears to be a problem with traffic flow around school - possibly caused by a road closure in the near vicinity.  I have heard reports of cars mounting the kerb and children being placed in danger.  We will speak to the children of course, but it would be worth being extra vigilant for the next few days/weeks until the situation returns to normal.

GOVERNOR NEWS

REVISED YEAR 6 SHOW TIMES

Please note that our Year 6 show to parents will now take place on Monday 15th July.  There will be 2 performances on that day, the first at 9.30am and then a second performance at 6pm.

KS1 GOOD WORK ASSEMBLIES

The Rabbits Class will be presenting their Good Work Assembly on Wednesday 27th March from 3pm - 3.20pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

KS1 BRACKENHURST TRIP

To enhance the children’s topic work, Key Stage 1 will be visiting Brackenhurst Outdoor Education Centre on either Monday 1st April or Tuesday 2nd April to take part in a range of exciting activities. Thank you to all of the parents who have returned their reply slips and paid for the trip. Please be aware that the payment deadline was Friday 8th March so we would appreciate any outstanding payments as soon as possible. If you would like to volunteer on the trip, then please inform your child's class teacher as soon as possible.

KS1 PARENT READING DAYS

Thank you very much to the parents who were involved in the KS1 Parent Reading Days. The children and staff loved hearing your favourite stories and we can't wait to offer the opportunity to parents again.

CHEERLEADING

Last week our KS1 and KS2 cheerleaders attended the George Spencer Cheerleading Competition.  Both teams performed their routines brilliantly and 1st place was awarded for both the KS1 and KS2 teams!  We are very proud of all the children. They showed incredible teamwork, resilience and determination to perform their routines which involved some complex stunting sequences. 

DANCE FESTIVAL

Thank you to all of the children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 who recently participated in the 'Dance Festival' at Alderman White School. The children were involved in two fantastic dance routines and demonstrated a brilliant array of skills, enthusiasm and team work. The children were a credit to the school and should be proud of their achievements. We would also like to thank all of the parents who gave up their time to support the children and cheer them on!

SWIMMING GALA

On 12th February, Mr Abdy, Mrs Nassau and 18 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 attended the South Nottinghamshire Swimming Gala at Bramcote Leisure Centre. The children had to swim a variety of strokes and also competed in a number of different relays, including a woggle relay and a polo relay! All of the children swam really well and they represented the school brilliantly. When all of the scores had been totalled, Round Hill finished in 7th place. Well done to everyone who took part!

FOOTBALL

The football season is now back under way and the school team have been very busy! On Thursday 7th March, we hosted the team from Bispham Drive and took part in a very tight match. Despite goals from Sam and Will B, the result went against us with the final score being 4-2.

The very next day, the team made the trip to Nottingham High School to take part in their annual festival. We were placed in a group with 3 schools from the city and played some very competitive matches. We managed to win our first two games 1-0 with goals from Yousaf and Daniel and our final game finished 0-0. This meant that the team finished in 2nd place overall (on goal difference) but the boys still came back with runners-up medals (and enjoyed the hot dogs that were provided afterwards!).

On Tuesday 12th March, we hosted Sunnyside and fielded four debutants in the school team. It was a very tight game which we won 2-1 thanks to 2 great goals from Will B - one of which was a screamer from outside the box, the other being a very clever finish that span past the goalkeeper.

We also made the short tram journey to Eskdale School on Thursday 14th March for another match. The strong wind played a massive factor in the game and it really made a massive difference to both teams. In the end, the final score was 2-2 which was probably a fair result. This means that the team are now on a five game unbeaten run! Well done to all of the children who were involved in the matches - they have all had a lot of fun and have supported each other brilliantly.

UPDATING THE SCHOOL WEBSITE

Over the next few months we will be working on updating the school website.  If you have seen or happen to see a drone flying over the field this  will be being operated by school staff, who having complied with all of the regulations, are  testing it out ready for a promo video we are trying to create.  Hopefully you will enjoy the end product.

RHA NEWS

Thanks to all who've helped organise and support the RHA fundraising events this school year.  With the introduction of some new activities (Xmas shopping evening & Thai meal), year-on-year, we're ahead of last year's figure.

The breakdown of funds raised since October are:

Total £2695

There are still many opportunities coming up to help raise money for the school.  The proposed extension to the running track is estimated to cost approx. £20k so there is still some way to go!

On Saturday 6th April we will be holding our Easter Fair.  This event is for children in KS1 and below. There will be an Egg Hunt and some other fun Easter themed activities. Refreshments will be available for all.

The next planned meetings will be held on Monday 29th April 8pm at The Star then Wednesday 1st May 2:30pm at

Green Hood Coffee Shop (opposite Boots).  Please join us if you can.
