Grammar and Spelling
At Round Hill we use the Rainbow Grammar scheme to teach children about the underlying structure of sentences. Throughout Key Stages 1 and 2, children build upon a simple sentence structure using colours to represent increasingly complex elements of a sentence.
Grammar and Spelling Bug is a scheme we use to plan, teach and assess spelling. We take an investigative approach to spelling: encouraging children to identify patterns and similarities in words. Rather than learning a set list of words for a weekly test, children spend five sessions per fortnight investigating a new spelling pattern, learning the rules for that pattern and applying their knowledge to independent writing. Children's learning is supported by the online games which can be accessed though the Grammar and Spelling Bug website.
